Accounting Term Faculty Position

The Edwards School of Business at the University of Saskatchewan is seeking to fill one limited term faculty position at the rank of Lecturer in the Department of Accounting effective July 1, 2017. The length of the appointment will be for one year. A reappointment is possible based upon department’s needs and the successful appointee’s performance however the cumulative lifetime length of appointment for term appointees cannot exceed 5 years. Candidates with superior qualifications may be considered for appointment at a higher rank and commensurate salary.

The successful candidate will possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in Business or Accounting. A Canadian professional accounting designation will be an asset. The open position are for candidates with a teaching interest/background in the areas of Advanced Financial Accounting and Taxation.  Knowledge and expertise in Financial Reporting and Assurance can be an asset.  The ideal candidate will be willing to work in a collaborative, collegial environment where teaching expertise is highly valued. The teaching load for each position will be 24 credit hours over the academic year from July 1, 2017 to June 30 2018. The salary band for this position is as follows: Lecturer $77,613.00 – 99,565.

Consistent with its goal of achieving business school accreditation, Edwards will recruit those individuals whose academic training and/or professional activities clearly align with our recruitment standards.  Candidates must satisfy any one of the following faculty categories:

  1. Scholarly Academics sustain their currency and relevance through academic scholarship and related activities.  Candidates would require a doctoral degree in an academic area clearly linked to the field in which they are expected to teach.
  2. Practice Academics sustain their currency and relevance through professional engagement and industry interaction.  Besides holding a doctoral degree in an academic area clearly linked to the field in which they are expected to teach, the candidate would have undertaken substantive consulting, linkages to practice, or other forms of professional engagement.
  3. Instructional Practitioners must have initial academic preparation (including a graduate degree), professional experience and ongoing professional engagement.  Their professional experience at the time of hiring must be significant in terms of duration and level of responsibility, and clearly linked to the field in which the candidate is expected to teach.  For those faculty teaching undergraduate courses, at least three years of full-time work experience would be required.  At least five years of full-time employment experience would be expected for those individuals assigned to teach in graduate programs.  Professional engagement activities must be substantive and sustained at levels that support currency and relevance for Edwards’ mission.”

For the current competition for positions, the School is seeking to primarily staff the positions with candidates that would meet the criteria outlined in c) above, although candidates with superior qualifications like a PhD in Business and relevant experience could satisfy one of the remaining criteria listed.
