Salary Information: The salary range is $4,327.44 to $5,834.14 per month (Applied Scientific Services, Phase 5). The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
Primary Purpose: To provide technical support in the Small and Large Animal Surgery service.
Nature of Work: This position is responsible to the Nursing Care Manager for the planning and provision of animal care in the Operating Room (OR). Employee works in a busy confined area with traffic pattern restrictions and dress code; assists with moving of patients and equipment and is subject to heavy lifting and standing for prolonged periods. This position works in an animal facility with small (canine, feline, avian, and some exotics) and large animals (bovine, equine, caprine, ovine, llamas, porcine) which exposes employees to animal dander, waste, and unpredictability. Position has on-call responsibility on a rotational basis for evening and weekends.
Typical Duties: Provides patient care consistent with hospital policy and procedure. To assists, Nursing Care Manager with instruction and demonstration of technical skills to undergraduate vet students and vet technology program students in labs and lectures. The successful candidate monitors clinicians, residents, interns and support staff with respect to OR aseptic technique. They will, in consultation with the Nursing Care Manager, updates lab directions/instructions and manuals as necessary and maintenance of equipment, facilities, and supplies. The technician will be required to float to other areas of the hospital when the surgery service demands are down.
Education: Graduate of a recognized two year Veterinary Technologist or Animal Health Technician Program, registered or eligible for registration with SAVT (Saskatchewan Association of Veterinary Technologists) and is certified or is pursuing certification with the Academy of Veterinary Surgical Technicians (AVST).
Experience: At least 3 years of direct surgery experience with a thorough working knowledge of OR aseptic technique. Experience in both large and small animal surgery required i.e. exotics, canine, feline, bovine, equine, caprine, ovine, llamas, porcine.
- Demonstrated proficient technical skills in the above mentioned fields, excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)

- Ability to work effectively and independently as well as part of a team, maintaining a professional and positive demeanor in a dynamic environment
- Ability to evaluate the work of others
- Demonstrated effective organizational and time management skills
