Postdoctoral Fellow, Drug Discovery and Development Research Group
A full-time postdoctoral fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Kishor Wasan, Professor and Dean in the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition. The individual will be involved in investigating the role of ABC transporters and lipid enzymes on cholesterol metabolism in kidney and prostate cell cultures (mouse knockout and prostate xenograft models). The project focuses on the molecular mechanisms of cholesterol-protein interactions and the function of ABC transporters and cholesterol influx molecules in the process of cholesterol transport and metabolism in kidney and castration-resistant prostate cells. The candidate must be familiar with tissue culture techniques, handling of animal tissues, methods for measuring gene and protein expression, analysis of the activity of enzymes involved in lipid metabolism, lipid analysis, immunohistochemistry, protein binding studies, RNA interference, drug delivery, chromatographic techniques, formation and characterization of liposomes. Experience in molecular biology, bioinformatics, lipid and protein biochemistry is required.
The successful candidate should have a PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology or a related field with relevant experience and must have post-doctoral experience in the field. He or she should have an interest in developing novel methods and in training graduate and undergraduate students. Experience in independent preparation of scientific manuscripts, presentations and grant writing is desirable.
The salary is negotiable, commensurate with experience and subject to final budgetary approval. The closing date for applications is March 1st 2017, or until position is filled; preferred start date is April 1st 2017. The University of Saskatchewan hires on the basis of merit and is committed to employment equity. We encourage all qualified persons to apply. However, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
