Casual (As Required) General Cook/Baker 2
Salary: We offer a competitive salary commensurate with training and experience.
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm and also involves occasional evening and weekend work. The work will begin as soon as possible.
Primary Purpose: To perform all manner of basic to intermediate cooking, cleaning and customer service duties where applicable in the area of food services for St. Thomas More College (STM). The position also provides leadership to casual staff.
Nature of Work: Reporting to the Executive Chef and Manager of Choices @STM, the General Cook follows the policies and procedures in Choices under moderate supervision. Workloads may vary, depending upon additional food services and catering events. Peak service demand times are frequent. The position primarily performs tasks related to the preparation and delivery of food and food services.
Accountabilities: The General Cook is accountable for proper handling of all food items in accordance with health regulations. Efficient and courteous customer service is required. The position requires food preparation, stocking of supplies and maintaining inventories as directed by the Executive Chef and Manager. The General Cook is responsible for the handling and cleaning of all food services equipment and for maintaining cleanliness in the Food Services area. Occasionally this position is called upon to direct the work of casual staff.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: The General cook must be: a team player, well organized and able to follow directions. The position requires excellent communication and customer service skills, the ability to work independently using sound judgement. The successful candidate will have knowledge of, and be able to work within, health regulations.
Physical Abilities: The General Cook must be able to lift 50 pounds and carry a variety of items stand, sit, squat and reach in a small kitchen area. Also must be able to stand for long periods of time during the shift.
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in the food service industry.
Education: A journeyperson certificate in cooking is preferred. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Must have completed or must be willing to obtain Food Safety certification or Serve Safe Food Certification.
