Salary Information: $3,098.55 to $4,182.97 per month (Operational Services, Phase 4). The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
Primary Purpose: The Digital Press Operator acts as lead hand in the press room and ensures quality printing services are provided in a timely manner.
Nature of Work: Reporting to the Assistant Director-Consumer Services, the Digital Press Operator directs workflow through the Digital room ensuring work is done in a timely manner, especially in times of high volume.
Typical Duties: This position: interprets work dockets to determine the appropriate printing requirements; operates press or digital equipment; keeps monthly records of digital equipment; programs files according to customer requests; manages the storage of digital job files; supervises the work of anyone else using digital equipment; coordinates repair and maintenance schedules with Xerox technicians; ensures the quality of production; ensures sufficient paper and chemical supplies, in keeping with work docket requests; maintains press room supplies inventory; prints high quality four color works using a single color print press; evaluates each stage of the printing process for quality of ink application and color density; adjusts the press or digital equipment for different sizes and weight of stock; checks all the rollers on the press regularly to ensure proper pressure settings; conducts regular maintenance of the press or digital equipment; understands, and supports through own work, the objectives and direction for the press room within PSDSD; assists the other presspersons and in other printing services areas as needed.
Qualifications
Education: A Graphic Arts or Print Technologist certificate
Experience: Minimum five years
experience. Experience operating IGEN 3, Docutech and Nuvera equipment would be
considered a definite asset. Problem-solving
experience with printing and digital equipment.
Skills:
Solid problem-solving, communication and organizational skills, as well as the
ability to attend to details are essential. The ability to exercise judgment
and work effectively and cooperatively with others.
