Salary Information:  $14.10 to $16.91 per hour (Facility Services, Phase 1).  The starting wage will be commensurate with education and experience.

Primary Purpose: To provide exceptional cleaning in a high volume location, namely Marquis Hall, Voyageur Place and/or McEown Park.

Nature of Work: Under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor, this is a front-line customer service position with frequent contact with students in an environment of occasional interruptions, changing priorities and numerous deadlines.  The work involves heavy physical labour and working safely with cleaning agents and solvents.

Typical Duties: Cleaning washrooms (and all related fixtures), common areas, student rooms and apartments; cleaning stoves, refrigerators and other appliances; cleaning floors (use of dry and wet mops, brooms, vacuum cleaners, shampooing equipment, automatic scrubbing machines, stripping, waxing and polishing); performing minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, tightening and replacing screws in furniture, maintaining cleaning equipment; washing walls and windows; and other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications
Education: Completion of grade 10 and the ability to read basic English.

Experience: Experience in operating hand and power cleaning equipment; use of cleaning agents, strippers, waxing systems, etc. would be an asset.  Customer service and teamwork experience is essential.  Must be conscious of recycling and sustainability practices.

Skills: Mechanical aptitude and ability to maintain equipment and make minor furniture repairs; physical ability to lift and move heavy objects (large tables, chairs, appliances, etc.) and perform other heavy manual labour; cooperative attitude; proficient housekeeping skills and accurate record keeping; effective interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal); demonstrated ability to work well under supervision as well as independently and as part of a team in a busy environment; and the ability to follow a systematic cleaning routine.

This position is in scope of CUPE 1975.
